Crossing Over

(the psychic phenomena of John Edward)

My MIL isn’t a believer.  In fact, she hates Jesus Christ with a passion.  Don’t ask me why – but she even told the funeral speaker not to mention God or Jesus at her (Believing) mother’s funeral.

I don’t witness to her, because she’s not open to recieving anything ‘religious’ from me.  I’m a whacked-out fanatical nutcase, in her opinion.  So trying to share is like slamming oneself into a brick wall.  I pray for her, and I tell Brian that he’s gonna have to be the one to tell her the truth. ((Of course Brian puts it off… it’s been seven years he’s been ‘waiting for the right time’…))

The right time is most likely past.  Because although she has always been adamantly against Christ, she was never ‘open’ to anything else before.  And Sunday night I was moving her newspaper pile and found a copy of John Edward’s book Crossing Over.  The bookmark in it was three-quarters of the way back… and MIL is NOT a reader.

Now I know nothing about John Edwards except what I’ve read on Kris’ site – I don’t have TV and don’t follow the national bestseller list.  But from what I hear, John Edwards is a ‘medium’ who uses his ‘psychic’ powers to contact the dead.  The proper term for contacting the dead is necromancy.

Necromancy I’m familiar with.  It’s in the Bible, that’s why.  ((wink!))  It’s in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 – There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a Necromancer.  For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. So basically, it says not to mess with this stuff, because it’s not of God.  And if it ain’t of God… well, you can pretty well guess who’s bag it is.  And I don’t go there.

So the questions are – What about this John Edwards guy?  Is that show evil?  What exactly is this all about?  So I went digging… at both my study sites and some nonnie sites, too.  ((Wanted the full picture.))  And I got some interesting stuff to teach.

First of all we need to talk about dead people.  We’ve already discussed what happens to people when they die.  As a rehash, here are the verses (found in Luke 16):

And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: ((The righteous do not go to heaven – we can’t go there until we are judged, and that isn’t until Judgment Day.  We go to “Abraham’s busom”, or Paradise.  NOT purgatory – it’s not even mentioned in the Bible.))  the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ((The unrighteous go to hell… it’s real, and it’s temporary… it will be cast into the Lake of Fire after Judgment Day.))  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ((For those of you who think hell-fire is a myth…))  Abraham saith unto him…between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; ((You can’t get between Paradise and Hell – once you’re dead, your chance at redemption is OVER)) neither can they pass to us, ((You can’t get to earth from either hell or Paradise)) that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house… that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.  ((And Abraham is right – Jesus rose from the dead, and the unrighteous still haven’t been persuaded!))

So the facts:  Hell is real.  Paradise is real.  Judgment Day is yet to come.  There’s no crossing from Hell to Paradise.  There’s no coming back.  There’s no ‘channeling’ the dead.  God says people who mess with spirits and such are wicked in His sight.  And that it’s a BIG deception that people fall for here on earth.  1 Timothy 2:5 says there is “one mediator between God and men”… and that’s Christ.  Psychics don’t have that ‘gift’.

So what exactly are they doing?  Oh, they’re channeling, alright.  But you don’t think they can do up a deception to pull the wool over on suseptible nonnies?  Ha!

Ephesians 6:12-13: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

They don’t call him the Father of Lies for nothing.  His demons are as real as angels, and although a third in number as the heavenly host, they are still very powerful and eager as all get-out to ‘pretend’ to be some dead person, to whisper unknowables into the ears of those ‘open’ to hearing them… and it’s not a game.  Ouija boards are not games.  Tarot cards are not games.  They are tools – very dangerous tools… because once you let spirits in… they are far more powerful than you.  You can’t get loose by yourself.  Ever.

Now we’ve all seen The Exorsist (ok, I haven’t but I know the gist of it) and those other demon-posessed movies with weird scary crap on them… it’s not like that now.  That’s not effective in gaining popularity with the masses.  Just like Satan isn’t red and horned with a tail and a pitchfork.  In fact, the Bible says that next to God-in-three persons, Satan was head honcho – the most beautiful of all angels and the most intelligent.  He’s not slimy or sinister… he’s radiant and charismatic.

And so are his servants.  Take John Edward.  I hear he’s very sympathetic to the plight of his guests.  I hear he’s charming and polite and smooth.  I hear he’s quite the personality.  Now if you wanted to lure in people, John Edward would be the person for you. He and this psychic phenomena have hit #1 on the Bestseller list.  Now THAT’S effectively reaching the masses… and turning people from the Truth to lies.

The deciever is cunning – the Bible says he stands at the throne of God accusing people.  He’s a good lawyer.  The best.  He’ll trick anyone he can into anything he can, and then hold them fully accountable… it thrills him to snare people.  He plays it like a game, but he knows that the winner keeps his prizes.  So he’s out for the most prizes… and that’s souls.  He knows what hurts God, and he’s out to do so any way he can.

So it’s not surprising John Edwards has visions and hears voices and sees ‘people’… and people eat it up and turn away from God’s command not to have anything to do with it.  There’s a REASON God had to command us not to do it – because we do it!!  Heck, look at the Catholics – they pray to the dead to intercede for them all the time!  Screw 1 Timothy 2:5 (Christ as sole mediator)… Mary, intercede for us!  St. Josephus, hear our prayers…!  It’s wrong.  God says so.  Wrong is wrong is wrong!  He’s loving, but he’s just, too, and if you are saying “I love you, Lord, I love you!” and doing exactly the things he abhors… what does that say?  Use logic, and you still hit the same answer!!  Even Christ said “If you love me, you’ll keep my commands.”  If you ignore my will, is that love?

Neither am I completely blowing off hard-core spiritism, though, in exchange for a ‘lighter version’ of satanic behavior.  The heavy stuff is real, too.  I have faced quite a lot of spiritual warfare, and done extensive reading on spiritualism vs. Christianity, and I’ll tell you right now… if you aren’t strong in the Lord, it’ll scare the shit out of you.  No joke.  But Christ-followers cannot be possessed, they can only oppressed (as if that isn’t bad enough, trust me).  And we will never be overcome… for by walking in Christ, we are always overcomers.  Even death cannot stop us from communing and dwelling in the Father.  Satan has no authority over us.

Because we have Christ as master, we have a power far greater than John Edwards.  Far greater than Alistair Crowley or Van Praagh or any Spiritualist… and if I had a choice, would I settle for something unpredictable, unstable, out for itself and LESS, or would I tap the ultimate power source – the Author of all who sacrificed Himself for us?  Hrm, tough decision!

So about John Edwards and Crossing Over…?  It’s BS.  I’ve read sites by skeptics that claim he bugs the dressing rooms and eavesdrops and alters the taped sessions so that certain answers are to certain questions to make himself look good.  I’ve read statistics that he’s only right 10-20% of the time (that’s a sign of a deciever, according to scripture.)  while James VanPraagh is right 20-30% of the time… isn’t it a little odd that every single one of the ‘hits’ are positive?  The dead are at peace, everything is forgiven, it’s all ok…?  How real is that crap, anyhow!?!

Jesus said “I am the Way.  I am the Truth.  I am the Light.”  And if He’s it, then everything else is a waste of time.  He can’t just be a good man or a great teacher.  A good man wouldn’t be able to denouce everything else and set Himself up as the sole way to eternal freedom and life.  That’s not the teaching of a good man or  a great teacher… it’d be a lie, and good men don’t lie.  He’d have to be a liar or a lunatic.  Either that or He really is Lord, and there really is a network of spiritual wickedness playing people for fools.

And what would you do if that were true?
