Profanity: Revisited

EVERY SINGLE YEAR – at least twice – I have to address language with Christians.  ((Not category specific at this point – it’s not the point))  The point is, there are HUNDREDS – maybe even THOUSANDS of commands in the Bible, and EVERY SINGLE YEAR people are all over my ass for something that isn’t even a command in the Bible.  ((For last year’s edition – via a pastor’s sermon – see Profanity: what the Hell? on my sidebar.))

Now I’m well aware that the Bible says to guard your mouth, to speak edifying things, that the tongue is important… but in EVERY INSTANCE the verses and those around them refer to content and not any particular words.  What’s in your heart is what comes out of your mouth… etcetera, etcetera.  GOOD GRAVY, don’t you know that the Bible EXPLICITLY SAYS not to add to it’s message?   You have a hell of a lot more nerve than I do, I’ll give you that!

You’ve quoted verse after verse at me – not one addressing words per se.  (Excepting for Momof3, who had the audacity to actually quote scripture and ACTUALLY CHANGE THE WORDS to make it say what she wanted.  ((I’m still reeling… do you realize how serious that is???))  You’ve proved nothing – except that you are trying to enforce your own OPINIONS on other people in a most legalistic way.  Remember how scornful Jesus was of the Pharisees for adding their own rules to the law?  Why would you want to be doing the SAME THING????

Profanity – by definition – it to take that which is holy and make it common.  FUCK takes the holy union of a man and woman – special to God – and makes it common.  OMIG– and JC  or GD-it take the Holy name of God and make it common.  You read my site – I have NEVER and will NEVER use them.  But SHIT PISS HELL ASS and DAMN were never indicative of anything holy, and therefore were common to begin with – they are NOT profanities, by definition, by scripture, or otherwise.  In fact, they are FOUND in scripture!!!

For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.   1 Samuel 25:34

And I have oxen, andasses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.  Genesis 32:5

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.  Isaiah 14:15

And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath. Judges 7:22

You’re being ridiculous, Anna… Sorry, but I’m just gonna laugh at you.  This WHOLE DAMN THING is ridiculous.  That’s grasping!  So is trying to make verses about ‘our message content’ include some word or other.  It’s like Gnostics trying to make Jesus’ statement ‘ye must be born again’ to mean we will be reincarnated.  The very context tells that ‘born again’ HAS NOTHING TO DO with reincarnation. But you take liberties with verses and bend them, just like the Gnostics do.  Be VERY careful.  Who knows how far that can be taken.  Which is why the Bible is adamant about not altering the scriptures to suit our purposes.  Or adding to them.

They’re just WORDS, and it’s the CHRIST-IANS (which, again, I refuse to categorize at this point) that have the problem with them…  because IN THEIR OPINION, the words are offensive.  Yes, and Christians are also the ones who have a problem with having a glass of wine, with cutting your hair, with women wearing pants, who argue over hymns vs. praise songs… it’s PATHETICLegalism, Legalism.  It’s NOT IN SCRIPTURE.

I fight with people about foudationally wrong beliefs – the CGM, which alter scripture and embrace the world.  With Catholicism, which denies a once-for-all sacrifice of God’s son and pray to the dead and reject the intercessory High Priest for human confessional, etc… these are FUNDAMENTALS that are clearly defined in scripture.  I don’t have time for this shallow, stupid crap that y’all get your britches in a wad over.  And frankly, if Christ’s commission is your commission, neither do you.

Fact of the matter is, there are SO MANY COMMANDS that *are* there… and we haven’t got a handle on them, and here we are, farting around with STOOPID frivolities.  When you’re able to do ALL THE THINGS the Bible does say to do… then you can start forcing your opinion on others.  Until then, be very careful what you decide to enforce on others… because you might just get bit in the butt with it.
