Sanhedrin Reorganizes!

Something happened two weeks ago that had me all excited and a lot of people asking the same question:  What’s so big about the Sanhedrin?  What happened?  Well, the Sanhedrin reorganized for the first time in over 1600 years.  And people don’t know who they are, what that means, and why it’s important to us.  So I wanted to talk about it.  Because many believe that in the top 5 prophetic fulfillments, this would be number 4…

((NoTe: Israel’s statehood in 1948, regaining of lands in 1967, the rebuilding of the temple (which we’re still awaiting), and several others are up there with it… although this all actually started with the Balfour Declaration in 1917, which was a result of WWI… and many Bible prophesy students believe that WWI was the first ‘birth pain’ because of the events triggered by it.))

WHAT IS THE SANHEDRIN?  Well, let’s start with the basics.  The Sanhedrin was the Jewish ‘supreme court’, you might say.  It consisted of 70 members and 1 high priest.   ((NoTe: with G-d presiding, so that makes 72 – ironically 72 is also the total of feast days [Moedim or “Appointments“]  Is that not kewl?))  The members of the Sanhedrin were the high officials in the Temple – Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes and the like.  They had to fulfill a LOT of qualifications – they had to know the law and the Torah like the back of their hands, had to be adept within science and mathmatics, had to be over forty and could not be childless, had to be multi-lingual… the list goes on (here).

((NoTe:  You know I like numbers.  And considering prophecy, I thought I’d try something…  72 divided by 144,000 is 2000.  The span of years we find that make up the ‘age of grace’.  Just an interesting sidenote… regardless of the fact that the calendar and dates are screwed up.))

WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?  In AD70, the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans ((NoTe:  which the Lord Jesus prophesied in Mark 13 – that not one stone would be left upon another.  Incidentally, the roof of the temple was gold, and when it burned, the gold melted into the stones of the temple, which were stolen for the gold… leaving not one stone left upon another, fulfilling Christ’s prophecy to the letter.  Whoa!)).  The Sanhedrin still existed for several hundred years, but because of Roman domination and persecution, they no longer judged in Jerusalem, but rather traveled ‘ten stages’ of exile, ending in Tiberias.  Which, btw, is where it’s re-organization has taken place.

WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS?   Well, it has everything to do with end time prophecy.  You see, you cannot have an active temple without a high priest.  And the high priest is appointed by the Sanhedrin… which has to be in full operation before any appointment can be made… before the third temple can be operational.  However, the re-formation of the Sanhedrin isn’t the first fulfillment.  Ezekiel prophesied that Israel would be regathered from all the world and become a nation again… and in 1948 this happened.  Without Jerusalem, there’s no place for the temple.  Without the Sanhedrin, there’s no temple.  Without a major change at Temple Mount, there can be no temple.  What we’re seeing is the precursory steps to the temple, before our very eyes.  I’m watching that mount!!!

IS THIS ACTUAL FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY IN ITSELF?  Actually, it’s not only fulfillment of Bible prophecy, but also fulfillment of Jewish tradition, which most ‘c’hristians don’t know anything about.  But let’s start with the Biblical fulfillment:

Isaiah 1:26-27  It is foretold that the restoration of the Sanhedrin will precede the coming of the Messiah.  God thus told His prophet, “I will restore your judges as at first, and your counsellors as in the beginning; afterward you will be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city. Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and those who return to her, with righteousness” This restoration, however, can only take place in such a time as willed by God.  Some say that this has already been fulfilled… however (once again) scripture is often layered, with *dry runs* of the final thing (for example, Antiochus Epiphanes and the AntiChrist).

Matthew 26: 59-64The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’ ” Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”  “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Obviously these men are long dead… and Christ has not come on the clouds yet… which refers to a future implication that the Sanhedrin will be in place in order to see the return of Christ!!

As for the Jewish tradition,  there are several.  One is a tradition that the Sanhedrin will be restored after a partial ingathering of the Jewish exile, before Jerusalem is rebuilt and restored. There is also a tradition that Elijah will present himself before a duly ordained Sanhedrin when he announces the coming of the Messiah. Like all events in the Messianic drama, the restoration of the Sanhedrin can only occur at the time decreed by God.  So far, there has only been a ‘partial ingathering’ of the Jews to the homeland.  Elijah has not yet reappeared, either (besides the coming of John the Baptist)… who I don’t recall evern announced before the Sanhedrin the Christ.  Hrm.  Something worth looking into.

Another tradition, according to Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, is that the “Talmudic Sages describe the ten stages of exile of the Sanhedrin from Jerusalem to other locations, until it ended in Tiberias – and this is the place where it was foretold that it would be renewed, and from here it will be relocated to Jerusalem.”  If this is true, then the re-organization of the Sanhedrin IN TIBERIAS is very, very significant, for it means a complete fulfillment of Talmudic prophecy.  Unfortunately, they don’t teach this stuff in churches, so I don’t know anything about it.  I wish.  ((Alyx..???))

So there you have it.  That’s what the Sanhedrin is, and why it’s such a HUGE event that they have reorganized and have been established yet again.  What’s very interesting is the timing of the event… with Arafat ill, the Revived Roman Empire (EU) gaining global power and planning to take authority of the Palestinian organisation, the month of Ramadan in full swing, the fall of the dollar, the weaponry and union between Russian and Iran, and rumors of an announcement on November 2 by Javier Solana regarding a 7-year treaty with ‘many’ nations… we’ve never been so close, nor had so many fulfillments and prophesied events lining up.  It’s a fantastic time to be witnessing!!!
