The Spirit World: Part 2

((what effect spiritual warfare has on our lives))

Yesterday I posted the first part of a two-part blog on Spiritual Warfare.  The first part was just an overview of what is out there and what the Bible says about it.  You know what they say… the wisest advice in a battle is “know thy enemy”.  So that’s where we started.  But the second most important thing to know in a battle is the enemy’s strategy.  And that’s where we’re going today.  People have weaknesses.  Those weaknesses are what’s targeted.  So… having said that, let’s dig in, eh?

First let’s get one thing straight, though.  You have to remember that Satan and his minions are NOT stoopid.  To begin with, He was second in command to the triune God.  The best of the angels.  The smartest, the strongest.  Don’t underestimate the enemy.  Another thing to keep in mind is that he’s been carefully designing this world to his advantage since the fall of man in Eden.  He’s had nearly 6000 years to perfect this place, to work out the kinks, to play humans and find out what to do to most effectively reach his goal.  Thank heavens God is bigger, smarter, stronger, and more than even that.  But in perspective, a human stands no chance apart from the Lord.  Yesterday I said that we’re not really the targets, anyhow – the goal is to cause God pain, and we’re simply the means to an end.

And the truth is, there’s little need for ‘hard core’ demonic activity in the average person’s life.  The majority of people are already on their way to hell, so that in itself is enough to grieve God.  Mission accomplished.  You don’t have to go after those who are already caught.  The whole ‘Matrix’ (aka present world) deception has them bound soundly up within the here and now, and the busyness of living – church, school, work, family, finances – is enough to keep them where they are.  Someone’s thinking about God, pondering the afterlife?  Just throw a family crisis, a busy schedule, an unexpected circumstance, and that is stopped quickly enough.  They’ve got their hands full, they don’t need the headache of eternity on top of it all.  You’re doing your best, that’s what counts.  Just keep on keeping on.  You do what’s right and you can’t go wrong.  See how easy it is?

Another effective tool used by the spirits to subdue people is the anger factor.  Make people question why God would give their mother cancer or take their daughter in a car accident… bring up the injustice of it and the futility of it all, and their own anger is enough to cripple them into Hell.  It’s just a whisper in their conscience, and they’re down.  Piece o’ cake.  People can be their own stumbling blocks… which means little effort on the part of any outside sources.  Sobering thought!

And using Nonnies and Christchuns to further tighten the web is another tactic.  Remember, if you’re not on God’s side, you’re a potential pawn for demons… anyone who’s not a Christ-follower can be possessed.  Simply send an obnoxious christchun into the picture to be a hypocrite and leave a distaste for all things ‘religious’, or a jaded Nonnie in with a reminder of just how big a crutch spirituality and God are, or how it didn’t work for them, and the chain is strengthened.

Ironically, I have more trouble with idiot christchuns when I’m trying to expose some untruth… for example, when I was trying to work out the Christmas lie for the first time, I got slammed with EuChrist BS, questions about silly things from people who never ask anything… it was weird.  Another example?  Guess who commented on my ‘part one’ of this… the WAH wenches (christchun holiness incarnate) who have been gone for a good six months.  Well, well, well, whaddya know?!  ((grins)).  Funny how these thing just *happen* incidentally, eh?  Yeeeeah.  I’m aware of what’s up, and what’s behind it.  And as if that was the only thing… there’s another ‘saint’ who has been making odd statements and has connections to strange humanist and universalist beliefs who has started acting really strangely towards me just over the past two days… I’m watching this stuff.  It’s not coincidence.

See, it’s kinda ironic – people think that ‘demonic activity’ is when people’s heads spin around and their eyes turn glowing red and they bite the heads off live chickens or paint their lips with black and slice themselves… but the majority of people are so weak and gullible, the REAL demonic activity isn’t even noticed.  The most effective tools (even with Christ-followers) are those that are completely imperceptible.  Want a few examples?  Let’s look at a few more of the simplest (and most effective) tactics of demons.

The easiest method is laziness. The ‘inner voice’ says ‘does it matter?  Who would you ask?  The Bible is too old and too hard to understand, anyhow.’  And people just don’t bother with it.  It’s a pain, something to add to their already over-exerted lives.  The next thing is distraction.  Get them involved with church.  With a career goal.  Even if they’re looking, get them looking in the wrong direction – Geneology, for example.  Looking backwards makes people forget that what’s ahead is more important.  ((That’s why there’s been a HUGE influx in geneology in the past few years, btw.))  That was a big beef of mine with “The Passion of Christ”… I personally believe it was a movie made by Satan to get the Christchuns looking backwards.  If they’re busy reflecting on the past, they cannot be effective for the future… but BOY, do they look damn holy participating – FEEL spiritual because of it, don’t they?  See how it works – people fall right into it!   How about confusion?   You’re too confused – you just don’t understand.  And how do you know what’s the truth and what’s not?  How can you figure it all out?  How do you know what you believe is right? Another easy method is procrastination.  You’ve got your whole life.  Old people sit and think about heaven and hell.  You don’t need to start that crap yet.  Worry about it later.  Or how about discouragement?  You’ve been to church.  There’s nothing there.  If God was real and cared, you wouldn’t have suffered, you wouldn’t be where you are.  There’s no point in any of it… this is the way it is.  You’re born, you work your ass off, you die.  That’s life, and that in itself is depressing.  There’s no fight at all – it’s manipulation of simple-minded, weak mortality.  Harsh, yes, but very true.  Have you heard any of these?  Even in your own head?  I’m betting you have.  They’re attacks to thwart any effort you may make toward Truth.

Those are the top ways people are played by demons.  They don’t need to hide under your bed or appear over your shoulder in the bathroom mirror.  In fact, if they did that, it would send the average nonnie or christchun straight to church… or the Bible… or somewhere… and they don’t want you anywhere but where they have you.  So their work is subtle and effective… not even noticed by most people.

Then what’s the deal with ‘ghosts’, possession, demonic encounters, etc?  That activity has it’s place, but in the lives of people seeking ‘something’.  For example, Susie feels guilty about feuding with her brother when he was alive, and is investigating how to contact the dead.  She needs ‘closure‘ or ‘reassurance‘… and that’s one reason ‘ghosts’ are utilized by demons.  Consult a tarot card reader, attend a seance, go to a fortune teller… and suddenly Humphrey is knocking on the table or speaking thru tea leaves, assuring his sister that he forgave her for the decade of bitterness and anger.  Pacified, Susie feels better.  Is at peace.  Mission accomplished by the demon.  Susie believes Humphrey is at peace, and returns to the same ‘life’ she had before.  Nevermind the fact that it *wasn’t* Humphrey who was ‘speaking’ to her, and that poor Humphrey’s not gonna ever be at peace again… But utilizing the ouija board or the horoscope to make people feel good about the future, the present, or the past has its usefulness.  And the lies are easy to believe, when they’re what you want to hear.

Another big red flag about these things – you need to know that if you open yourself up to this activity willingly (reading horoscopes, consulting mediums, using ouija, etc.) you are in essence giving spiritual wickedness a green light to enter your life.  That green light can’t be turned off apart from Christ.  Don’t dabble – it is direct rebellion against God, and it’s considered an open door to demons.  You’re immediately in their hands, and there’s no way out besides Christ… and don’t think they’ll let you anywhere near Him, if they can help it.

The other use for ‘ghosts’ or spirit encounters is fear.  There are time people need to be ‘scared’ into passivity or subjection.  And remember that fear is OPPOSITE of what God provides.  You want to thwart God’s plan?  Invoke fear in people.  It can come in several packages:  Fear of death is one of the most common:  You don’t want to think about it, because if you think about it, you’ll realize you’re accountable, and being accountable is not only unfair, but makes us feel guilty or fearful of what that means for eternity, and it’s better just not to go there.  It’s paralyzing.  It’s effective.  And it works.

Fear is used with people who delve into the spirit world, too.  They feel powerful because of their spirit guides, but remember who’s actually at the helm – it isn’t the witch or warlock.  They may be part of it, but they’re just a vehicle.  The power isn’t theirs.  And when they get out of line, fear is useful.  Fear keeps them right where they are the most useful.  The sad thing is that once you go there, how do you get free?  You’re trapped… although most people who dabble in the occult are easily subdued by simply being given the illusion that they are in control and necessary.  But don’t think for a moment that it can’t turn around.  Or that it won’t.

Fear is also useful in crippling a saint (Christ-Follower).  I’ve been there.  What I personally experienced scared the living hell out of me… and here’s where we go where I don’t want to.  Several years ago I had a reoccuring problem.  Brian would get up at 5am and go to work, and as soon as he was out the door, I would hear *it* coming down the stairs.  It would come into my bedroom, and pin me to the bed.  I was fully awake – begging God to keep it away silently… but it would come in and pin me down, and I couldn’t move.  I couldn’t breath.  I couldn’t rebuke it or sing hyms or quote scripture to counter it – I was immobilized… but it felt like I was spinning.  I could see and think, but that’s it.  Once I even saw it – it was grinning at me.  But this happened almost every morning, and I couldn’t figure out what the deal was.

Terrified, I drove 4 hours to Indiana to my friend Deeta’s, and asked for help.  I wasn’t involved in anything I shouldn’t be, nothing was different that I knew of… but I didn’t know what it was or how to make it stop.  It was horrible.  I suspect it was the Wiccans, because that was about the time I was having so much trouble with witches on-line, but I’m not sure.  A few weeks ago a friend here on Xanga blogged about her husband having the same problems and that a missionary friend called that immobilization a “blood stop“.  Her post evoked several other comments from Christ-followers who have experienced the same thing.  Apparently it’s a fear-evoking thang utilized by demons to try to scare a Christ-follower.  Lemme tell ya – it works.

Only fear isn’t of the Lord.  That’s the first thing to remember.  Secondly, a Christ-follower cannot be possessed, only oppressed.  If you have the Holy Spirit within you, there is no way the demons can be there.  That space is occupied.  It doesn’t mean that demons can’t plant thoughts, physically attack (with sickness, bloodstops, etc.) and use other people to harrass and attack the Christ-Follower.  But their tactics cannot REALLY affect the Christ-follower in the long run.  We’ve already overcome thru Christ, right?  So it’s a state of faith – if your hope is in the Lord, no tactic can work for long.  But as long as fear, discouragement, and frustration are the main reactions, the goal is accomplished.  The saint is slowed down or even stopped from his walk and endeavors.

Again, though – most ‘believers’ never encounter this stuff.  In fact, they’re no challenge at all, and have made it their whole christchun lives without much actual ‘demonic’ activity at all.  This, btw, is a sign that you’re NOT in God’s will.  If you’re no threat, that means you’re not doing what you need to be doing.  Think about that… think about Paul and the trials and tribulations… think about the saints that were martyred in the early Christian era – they were spreading the gospel to a new world, and the goal was to stop them.  But there’s not much worry about that with much of Christendom today.  Not much is needed to keep them ineffective.  And it’s true – most Christchuns are as easily duped with the distraction, discouragement, and doubt method and nothing more has to be added.  How many people are ‘Sunday Christchuns’?  How many are so lax about their beliefs that they hardly crack the book, barely give God a fleeting thought as they hustle kids from here to there, fix supper, balance the checkbook, and try to summon up some romance with the husband?  My point has been made.

Then there’s the effective few… and these are the ones who are persecuted, find themselves in one crisis after another, come down sick, face strange challenges, experience bloodstops and ‘chance’ encounters with troublemakers at the most ‘ironically’ inopportune time….  If you speak out Truth, be prepared to be attacked.  Believe you me, I know.  Especially expect to be attacked by other ‘christchuns’.  Demons love that tactic, because it plants doubt about the person’s credibility, after all, another CHRISTchun (or pastor, or whole group!) has a problem with them.

True Christ-followers face many, many trials.  They’re slammed from all sides at once, with everything Satan’s minions have.  Fear… doubt… distraction… pain… sorrow… dispair… anything that will work.  Anything.  And if the big guns get pulled out, you get the lovely experience of a bloodstop or the opportunity of looking one right in the face.  Take my word for it – neither are fun.  Don’t be discouraged… just know that the enemy is at work, and that means that you’re on the right track.  It’s a good thing, believe it or not.

This is long.  But I wanted to cover everything.  Like I’ve said, the goal is to grieve God.  That doesn’t take much with most people.  Only if you’re spiritually active are you a threat, and you’ll encounter the ‘hard core’ warfare… but most people are subdued so easily that they don’t even notice the daily encounters that keep them in their safe little spots.  Anyhow, now you know.  And it might not mean anything to you… on the other hand, it might show you just what tactics are being used on you, and awareness is vital.

1 John 2:15-21, 24-28  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.  They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.  I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.  These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.  But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.  And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
