The Missing Third

I may be too anal for my own good, but… I’m suddenly afraid that I’m missing something important, in regards to the Trumpet Judgments.

The first trumpet results in 1/3 of the earth’s vegetation being decimated.
The second trumpet results in 1/3 of the earth’s saltwater being decimated.
The third trumpet results in 1/3 of the earth’s freshwater being decimated.
The fourth trumpet results in 1/3 of the earth’s atmosphere being decimated.
The sixth trumpet results in 1/3 of the earth’s population being decimated.

I skipped one.
Did you notice that?

That’s because the fifth trumpet isn’t a 1/3 of something… that I can see, anyhow.  Here are the verses about Trump Five:

And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.  And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.  And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.  And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.  And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.  And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.  And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.  And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.  And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.  And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

But do you see ANYTHING in that about a third of something being decimated in those verses?  Every other trumpet had a third of something destroyed, and… I’ve GOT to be missing something, right?  Now there wasn’t that kind of a pattern with the Seal Judgments – there were four that were horsemen… so I didn’t really look for anything, but this has me scratching my head.

Could it have something to do with the five month period that these nasties are on the loose?  Is five months a third of a period of time?  It’d be a fifth of fifteen months, right?  That’s not significant biblically… hrm.  I don’t know.  Got any ideas?

  1. I’ve been studying the trumpet judgements too and the number 5 in scripture indicates many things. Maybe check out this link and see if you get anything. 🙂

    • It don’t jive with me.
Five is the number of mankind:

      ** five (physical) senses,
** five fingers on each hand,
** five toes on each foot.

Everything they listed there jives with MY definition:

** five kinds of animals were sacrificed under the Old Covenant Law of sacrifice
** God changed Abram’s name to Abraham by adding the letter/number five to his name
      [Father if mankind/nations].
** The Tabernacle for man to connect w/God measured in multiples of five
** five books of Torah given to mankind
      ** Matthew’s Gospel 5is divided into 5 “books” of 5 narratives/5 discourses.
** Messiah’s flesh bled from five wounds on the Cross: two hands, two feet and His head.

Which means that the five months that mankind is tormented is five because it’s a curse/woe upon mankind. But that tells me nothing about the missing third. (((((sigh!)))))

  2. Hey, how about this possibility. The war in Heaven in Revelation 12 refers to the dragon and his tail sweeping a 1/3 of the stars from Heaven and throwing them to Earth…

    • Yes! Wait, wait, wait, that was back story… so basically what you’re saying is that 1/3 of the heavenly host are the locust army. Possibly coming in the ‘guise’ of an ‘alien’ invasion. ((<<< I added that bit.)) YES! That makes sense! Thank you!!
