cooltext1783293293~~~~ Chapter 41: Attacking Barbarians ~~~~

Still playing catch-up on these!  (Good thing it doesn’t matter to you!)

For chapter 41, we actually referenced another ‘Story of the World’ weblog‘s idea… only they used it for chapter 40.  While, yes, Boudicca was also considered a ‘barbarian’ by the Romans, she wasn’t really as aggressive as some of the ‘barbarians’ out there.  She really just wanted Rome to get off her dadgum island, that’s all.  Atilla the Hun, though… he didn’t just drive Rome off his turf, he went after them on their own empirical lands!  The Goths, Visigoths, Vandals… all of these other barbarians went after Rome, and picked it apart, moving in on it.  Barbaric!  ;)

‘Story of the World’ describes barbarians as the ugliest people: dirty, brutal, with no manners.  They ate with their fingers, sometimes not even bothering to cook the meat!  They ate wild roots and talk their children to ride horseback before they could even walk.   Due to this description, we actually held off and did the recommended activity for Chapter 40 with this chapter, instead.

This actually wasn’t an activity that’s new to us.  For Hanukkah, every year, we have a ‘Fry Night’, where we pull out the Fry Baby, and do an extremely heavy and fattening meal of onion rings, mozzarella sticks, popcorn chicken, breaded mushrooms, jalapeno poppers, and more in the deep fryer.  Everything is eaten with our fingers.  So since this chapter and the feast pretty much lined up for us, we just did that.  Double whammy.

If you’d like a less ‘heavy’ alternative, check out the other blogger’s meal:

PS:  I don’t know if it’s a typo just in my book or not, but Atilla died in 453 AD, not 53.  Just… so you know.  Because that’s kind of an issue, if you don’t catch it.
